Get Connected

May 13th, 2011 No comments

Sunday mornings at True North are fun, but we know it can be difficult to meet other people.

Community Groups are an integral part of what we do as a church. Our Sunday services are only a small part of the big picture, we want every person who attends True North to get plugged into a Community Group. Community Groups are weekly gatherings, usually at people’s homes, to talk about life & faith.

If you’d like more information a community group, click here.

The BEST way to stay in touch with what’s happening around True North is TXTsignal.

Click HERE give us your name, cell number, and carrier (Verizon, At&t, etc.) and we’ll send you 1 txt message a week to keep you informed.
We WON’T spam you or give your information away and you can opt out at anytime.

Just Love

Community Groups are an integral part of our church. They are a chance to connect with others on a common purpose.

Just Love
is a community group led by Jen Hinst-White whose mission is to end hunger on Long Island. Want to help?

How long would it take the maniacs of True North to collect 500 lbs of food for the hungry? Think we could do it in a day? When you’re at church this week, pick up a shopping bag for our April 17 one-day food drive to benefit Island Harvest, Long Island’s largest hunger-relief organization. Then bring your food on Sunday, April 17, one week before Easter.

P.S. Seems like everybody buys pasta for food drives—why not get creative? Here’s a list of Island Harvest’s preferred items:

Most needed items include:

Canned Vegetables
Tomato Sauce
Vegetable Soups
Canned Fruits (in juice or light syrup)
Dried Fruits
100% Fruit Juice
Beans- canned or dry
Peanut Butter
Nuts
Canned Meat (chicken, beef, ham)
Canned Fish (tuna, salmon, sardines)
Canned Stews (chicken or beefRice (white, brown, flavored)
Pasta/noodles
Cold Cereal
Hot Cereal (grits, oatmeal, farina)
Flour/Cornmeal/Baking Mixes
Whole Grain Crackers
Couscous
Canned Pasta (spaghetti, ravioli)
Dry Milk packets
Shelf stable milk
Soy/Almond/Rice Milk
Baby Food/Cereals
Nutrition Beverages (Boost, Ensure, Carnation Instant Breakfast)
Spices
Coffee/Tea

City Love

December 6th, 2010 No comments

What is City Love?

City Love is a service project organized by our College Community Groups. Our goal is to provide aid to those who live on the street.

This past summer, our College Community Groups walked the streets on NYC on a monday night armed with clothes, toiletries, and various other amenities to distribute to the homeless.
While many were certainly grateful for what we could provide, there was an overwhelming request specifically for towels & socks.
We’re returning the city this January and it is our goal to get as many new towels & socks out there as possible and we’d love for you to help.

We’ll be collecting new towels & socks at our services on December 12th, 19th, & 23rd. Drop off whatever you can and our college students will take it from there.

If you’re a college student or in the 18-25 range and are interested in helping with City Love, contact Matt Summers.

College & Young Adult Subway Series Outreach

November 3rd, 2009 No comments

Subwayseries_blog

The following is an awesome outreach opportunity being put together by our college & young adults. If you have additional questions please contact Dan Fruhauf or Matt Senior.

College and Young Adult Outreach to the Homeless of NYC Subways

This is an initiative to lend a warm hand to people in bitter need.  During the cold months of the year the Subways of New York grow in number of homeless people seeking shelter and especially warmth. It is a blessing and an opportunity to serve these people who need love and compassion.

On November 15th and 22nd, we are looking to invite you to donate sleeping bags that will be delivered and handed out to the homeless in the NYC subways. Since True North is the kind of church that gives overwhelmingly, we will be asking no more than two per family, and no more than one donation per person. There will also be a sign up sheet at the info table for any college or young adults looking to participate in the delivering of the sleeping bags. The distribution date will be on Friday, December 4th. We will be meeting in Penn Station at 9pm at the main terminal.
